Tom Boyer of the Virginia Pilot & Ledger Star writes:

"Don't misread Steve, he's only stating facts. Online services around
the country have had an extremely difficult time attracting female
customers. That's one of the biggest unwritten-about stories of
cyberspace."

Tom raises the question of why (a great question that I'd love to hear more
about), but I'm also interested in the question of how much. Has anyone
collected any stats (broader than Mec Center's 85% male) on the female to male
ratios of modem owners? Internet users? Commercial service subscribers? Members
of this list? And does anyone have older stats, say, from two or three years
ago, that we could compare with newer ones? My gut feeling, from a local BBS,
is that a few more women are starting to come aboard, but we're still still
around in the 20-80 range.
